Maria P. Tirado Amsterdam - Maria P. Tirado, 93, of Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024 with her loving family by her side. Born on February 1, 1931 in Yabucoa Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Carmelo Morales and Juana Castro.
On September 8, 1950 she was married to the love of her life, Constancio Tirado. That union was blessed with 70 wonderful years until his passing on January 12, 2020. She was also predeceased by her son, Luis R. Tirado Sr.; and her siblings, Carmello DeLeon, Marta Leusch, Aida Escribano and Pablo Escribano.
Maria worked hard all her life. She was employed as a seamstress for several area companies and owned and operated The Blaze Inn Tavern for 36 years alongside her beloved husband. She enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, sewing and dancing. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughter, Domitila "Judy" Ortiz and her husband Ismael Ortiz; six grandchildren, Ismael Ortiz Jr. (Polly), Cesar Ortiz (Courtney), Jenise Tirado, Luis Tirado Jr. (Amber), Rio Tirado, and Reagan Tirado; eight great grandchildren, Emilia Ortiz, Ganiha Tirado, Giana Luft, Luis Tirado III, Elianna Tirado, Miesha Ortiz, Gabriella Ortiz and Carmella Ortiz; many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY with The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating. Burial will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. All are invited attend.
