ROME — Nina Fedullo turned in a brilliantly efficient performance, scoring 24 points on 11-of-13 shooting, to lead the Amsterdam girls basketball team in a dominant 79-37 win over Section III’s Rome Free Academy Saturday afternoon.

Fedullo made nine of her 11 shots from inside the arc and knocked down both of her 3-point attempts to lead the way for the Lady Rams (11-2).

Maria Lomanto hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points for Amsterdam, Giuliana Pritchard returned from the illness that sidelined her for Thursday’s loss to Glens Falls with 11 points, Brady Santiago chipped in nine points and Finnish exchange student Janina Sjoberg scored a career-high seven points.

Lucia Liverio dished out nine assists for the Lady Rams, who will be back in action Tuesday at 6 p.m. on the road against Niskayuna.


Mekeel Christian 70,

Fonda-Fultonville 43

Deonte Holder poured in 26 points and Carter Stewart and Jordan Jackson added 21 and 13 points, respectively to lead Mekeel Christian to a win over Fonda-Fultonville at Glens Falls Civic Center on Sunday.

F-F held a 16-10 first quarter lead before Mekeel broke the game open with a 25-7 second quarter run to lead 35-23 at halftime.

Nik Conture scored 16 points and Dan Parslow added 14 points to lead Fonda-Fultonville.

OESJ 59, DeRuyter 45

AJ Hayes scored 22 points to lead the Wolfpack to victory Saturday at Herkimer County Community College.

Devyn Jones added 18 points, Tyler Brado scored 10 and Tyler Leon chipped in seven points to round out the effort for OESJ.


Wrangle in the Plains

Amsterdam sent eight wrestlers to the two-day event at the Schenectady Armory, with one in the Elite bracket and seven in the Backbone bracket.

Nick Rodecker was Amsterdam’s lone Elite entrant, finishing sixth at 126 pounds.

In the Backbone tournament, Randy Faria took second at 182 pounds and Brennen Rivas was third at 120 pounds. Also for Amsterdam, Robert Boyer took fifth at 170 pounds and Tyler Krackow (113), Matt Johnson (152), Kyle Taylor (195) and Mike Rieken (220) all came home with seventh-place finishes.



The Amsterdam boys and Fonda-Fultonville girls both posted team victories in Saturday’s meet at Union College.

Amsterdam edged Shenendehowa by four points for the team win, led by victories from Kevon Boucaud in the 300-meter dash and long jump. Ryan Kamanu also scored big for Amsterdam, winning the 1,000-meter run and finishing second in the 1,600 meters, while Marcos Santiago was victorious in the 50-meter hurdles. Also picking up key points were Timmy Kline with a third-place finish in the 1,000 meters and Luis Rodriguez finishing third in the 45-meter dash.

The Fonda-Fultonville boys were led by Chris Yarush’s victory in the shot put as the Braves finished fifth as a team.

In the girls portion of the meet, Fonda-Fultonville outpaced Amsterdam by 30 points to lead the eight-team field. Brittany Castelluccio led the way for the Lady Braves with a win in the triple jump and runner-up finishes in the 45- and 300-meter dashes, while Emma Rhodes was first in the long jump and second in the 50-meter hurdles.

Also for the Lady Braves, Emilia Vardai-Davidson was second in the triple jump and third in the longh jump, while runner-up finishes were posted by Avery Cook in the 600 meters, Savannah Bell in the 1,000 meters and Alyson Shirley in the high jump.

Amsterdam won six events on the day — Brenda Santana in the 45-meter dash, Lauren Santiago in the 300 meters, Olivia Lazarou in the 1,500 meters and Gabby Stanavich in the 50-meter hurdles, along with the 4×200 and 4×800 relays. Santana, Santiago, Stanavich and Emma Patrei won the 4×200, while Lazarou teamed with Gaby Maroto, Kayla Sondrup and Gabby Feliciano in the 4×800 relay.


Hudson Valley CC 103, Fulton-Montgomery CC 93

Brandon Cooper scored 27 points on a perfect shooting day for the Raiders, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a high-scoring loss to HVCC.

Cooper was 8-of-8 from the field — including 4-of-4 from 3-point range — and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Kerome Grant added 20 points and 11 rebounds for F-MCC, which also got 16 points apiece from Nigel Hemingway and Dante Morgan.

Kevin Lenehan scored 26 points, Elijah Lott scored 24 and Brandon Palmer chipped in 20 points to pace the Vikings in the victory.


Fulton-Montgomery CC 84, Hudson Valley CC 51

Amirah Greene scored a game-high 23 points, and the Lady Raiders led 48-20 at halftime en route to a dominant win.

Rylie Smith and My’eesa Grant added 14 points apiece for F-MCC, which also got 10 points from Kaina Martinez and nine points from Moet Jenkins.

Kali Szczepanski led HVCC with 17 points.
