VERONA — Preston Taylor knocked down the game-winning pull-up jumper from the free throw line with one second left in regulation, giving the Broadalbin-Perth boys basketball team a thrilling 64-62 victory Thursday over the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Red Devils in the championship game of the V-V-S Christmas Tournament.
Taylor scored 14 points for B-P (5-2) — which beat Waterville, the top-ranked Class C team in the state, by 28 points in the first round Wednesday — en route to earning tournament most valuable player honors for the second straight year.
Lucas Coon hit seven of the Patriots’ 12 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 23 points. Joey Ladipo knocked down four shots from beyond the arc and chipped in 14 points for B-P, which won despite a 2-of-6 performance as a team from the free throw line.
Davey Moffett scored a game-high 29 points and Andrew Roden chipped in 12 points for the Red Devils.
