TROY — Union College defensive end Vincent DiCaterino, a 2016 Broadalbin-Perth High School graduate, was named the Liberty League Football Co-Defensive Performer of the Week for his performance in a Sept. 30 game. He shares the honor with Ryan Byrne of St. Lawrence.
DiCaterino had his second three sack game of the season, as Union won the fourth straight overall and third straight away game, 28-27, at Morrisville State. He also had seven tackles, six primary, and a forced fumble. The three sacks totaled 20 yards in losses. His third sack came on a 2nd and 10 from the Union 37 with 1:21 remaining and the hosts trailing by one point. DiCaterino now ranks 14th in NCAA Division III in sacks and leads the Liberty League.
For the season, DiCaterino has accounted for 21 tackles (17 solo), including seven tackles for loss and six sacks. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound sophomore also has two forced fumbles and three pass breakups.
This is his second league honor of the season, as he was named to the league’s weekly honor roll on Sept. 11.
DiCaterino and Byrne will be in the same game this week. After three straight road games, Union is home Saturday. The Dutchmen open Liberty League play against St. Lawrence at Frank Bailey Field at 1 p.m.
