Shatner to attend USS Enterprise retirement

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Captain James T. Kirk will be on hand when the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise is officially retired.

A publicist for William Shatner tells the Daily Press (http://bit.ly/TtShbw ) that the actor will attend the ship's inactivation ceremony Saturday at Naval Station Norfolk. Shatner is scheduled to perform Friday in Newport News.

Shatner played Kirk at the helm of the starship Enterprise in the "Star Trek" television series and several movies.

The world's first-nuclear powered aircraft carrier returned to Norfolk from its final deployment earlier this month. Saturday's inactivation will be its last public ceremony.

Lohan charged with lying, reckless driving

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) -- Prosecutors in California have charged Lindsay Lohan with lying to police and reckless driving stemming from a car crash on a coastal highway earlier this year.

It comes the same day the actress was arrested in New York City after police say she hit a woman during an argument.

The Santa Monica City Attorney's office filed the charges Thursday, nearly six months after the actress crashed her Porsche into the back of a dump truck while on her way to a movie set.

Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis says Lohan also faces a charge of willfully resisting or obstructing an officer in the performance of their duties. All the charges are misdemeanors.

Lohan's attorney Shawn Holley did not return messages seeking comment.

Lucas plans 2nd Yoda statue in Bay area

SAN ANSELMO, Calif. (AP) -- Star Wars fans may soon have another Yoda statue in the San Francisco Bay area to visit.

Filmmaker George Lucas plans to help build a small park in Marin County that would include bronze statues of the popular Star Wars character and Indiana Jones.

His estate manager tells the Marin Independent Journal the Yoda statue would be similar to one in San Francisco's Presidio neighborhood. That one -- a full-sized replica of the Jedi sage -- lies atop a fountain outside an arts center where Lucas moved most of his operations in 2005.

It has become a big draw for fans.

Lucas applied for a permit Wednesday to demolish a building on the site of the planned park in San Anselmo, the town where Lucas lives.

Steven Tyler addresses Nicki Minaj 'racist' claim

NEW YORK (AP) -- Steven Tyler is apologizing -- if Nicki Minaj misinterpreted his recent comments.

The former "American Idol" judge and Aerosmith frontman responded to Minaj's claim that he's a racist.

Minaj took offense to comments Tyler made during an MTV interview in which he said Bob Dylan would likely be immediately dismissed from this year's show.

"Idol" premieres Jan. 16 on the Fox network with Minaj, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban serving as new judges. The rapper called the comment racist and fired an expletive at the Aerosmith frontman, as well.

During an interview with the Canadian entertainment news program "eTalk," Tyler spoke directly to Minaj, saying: "I apologize if it was taken wrong, Nicki."

"I am the farthest from -- what did she say I was? -- a racist," Tyler said in the interview. "I'm the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist. I don't know where she got that out of me saying I'm not sure how she would have judged Bob Dylan. I was just saying that if Bob Dylan came on the show, he would've been thrown off, so maybe I spoke out of turn. But a racist I am not, Nicki."
