Snowstorm alters hoops schedule

Friday, December 28, 2012 - Updated: 6:10 PM

The snowstorm that swept through the region Wednesday into Thursday caused the postponement of nearly all of Thursday's scheduled high school basketball action until today.

The opening round of the Gloversville Holiday Tournament has been bumped back to today, with the Amsterdam boys facing Mekeel Christian at 6 p.m. and Fonda-Fultonville facing host Gloversville at 7:30 p.m. The consolation and championship games have been pushed to Saturday.

The same holds for the scheduled girls tournament at Broadalbin-Perth, where Stillwater will play Hudson today at 5:30 p.m., followed by host B-P taking on Canajoharie at 7 p.m. Also postponed a day were the boys basketball tournament at Northville and the Fort Plain boys team's trip to a tournament at Cooperstown High School.

Mohawks announce 2013 HOF Class

The Amsterdam Mohawks announced Thursday the Class of 2013 of the Amsterdam Baseball/Mohawks Baseball Hall of Fame, which will be inducted at a Feb. 2 ceremony.

The inductees into the Amsterdam wing of the Hall of Fame will be former Amsterdam High School and Siena College star Dan Saullo and key Amsterdam Little League figure Steve Porcello. The Mohawks Hall of Fame inductees are Vince Riggi, a University of Richmond standout who played with the Mohawks from 2004 through 2006, and Josh Colafemina, who spent 2003 and 2004 with the Mohawks while playing at the College of St. Rose.

Former Major League pitcher Dwight Gooden will be the keynote speaker at the induction ceremony.
