Lady Rams move holiday showcase back a day, but other tournaments still hoping to get started

Thursday, December 27, 2012 - Updated: 6:10 PM

Staff report

With a forecast calling for heavy snow beginning Wednesday night and heading into this morning, only the Amsterdam girls basketball's holiday hoops schedule had seen any meaningful changes made in advance, as of Wednesday evening.

Rather than the Amsterdam Holiday College Showcase beginning today, it will instead start Friday. The two-day tournament's schedule was pushed back a day, meaning today's games will be played Friday, and the games first scheduled for Friday will be played Saturday.

Meanwhile, local tournaments in Broadalbin-Perth, Canajoharie and Gloversville will -- at least, for now -- go on today as originally scheduled. It is possible that cancellations of games could occur during the day.

"I'm assuming they're going to wait," said Amsterdam boys basketball head coach Tony Orapello. The Rams are set to play in the Gloversville tournament, along with Fonda-Fultonville, Gloversville and Mekeel Christian Academy.
