Doris Darrow Derrick, 92, formerly of Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening at the Maplewood Manor Nursing Home in Ballston Spa with her loving family at her bed side.
Born in the Town of Root, New York she was the daughter of the late Birdsley and Irene Sweet Darrow. Doris graduated Salutatorian of Canajoharie High School in 1938.
Having worked various jobs, she retired in 1986 as office manager of Gem Urethane where she was affectionately called mom Doris, and continued to maintain contact with her employer, Klaus (Erika) Beckman and a number of employees whose life's she touched.
Doris was a long standing and devoted member of the St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was the Sunday School Secretary and Treasurer for 33 years; a member and Secretary of the Church Council; member of the Church Choir; member of the Daughters of the King and Faithful Followers Bible Class. Doris was the Secretary and team member that organized the 1st Amsterdam Day Care Center.
On April 12, 1941 she married Walter Derrick who passed away in 1993.
She was also predeceased by her sons, Alan and Howard Derrick; daughter-in- law Pamela (James) Derrick and grandchildren, Kyle Derrick and Wendy Burton; her siblings, Alice Keller, Muriel Herron, Virginia Darrow, Herbert Darrow, Dewey Darrow and LaVerne Darrow.
Survivors include her sons, Lee Derrick of Fonda, James Derrick of Amsterdam and Richard (Janet) Derrick of Illinois; her daughter Lorna (Roy) Walsh of Fonda; daughter-in-law, Gean (Howard) Derrick of Arizona; three sisters Lois Avery of Palatine Bridge, Eleanor (Robert) Klingbiel of Stuyvesant and Joyce (Howard)Douglas of Little Falls; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Dr. John Califano officiating. Burial will take place in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill, NY.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Doris's memory to the St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 24 Pine Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
