Roundup: Veeder leads Lady Cougars past Northville

CANAJOHARIE -- Dainara Veeder scored a game-high 13 points, as the Canajoharie Lady Cougars breezed past the Northville Lady Falcons, 45-23, in a Western Athletic Conference North Division girls basketball game.

Canajoharie (2-1, 1-0) led by 14 points at the half. Jenelle Dillenbeck had eight points for the Lady Cougars, while Lauren Balfe, Alexis Kane and Kara Schwab each added six.

For Northville (1-1, 0-1), Lyndsey Wadsworth had eight points to lead the Lady Falcons. Charlotte Kalkbrenner chipped in seven points.

Fort Plain 43, Mayfield 28

The Fort Plain Lady Hilltoppers (3-0, 1-0) stayed undefeated, as Abby Boyer scored a game-high 21 points.

Mayfield's (0-2, 0-1) Jennifer Little had eight points to lead the Lady Panthers.

Haley Kilmartin added 13 points for Fort Plain, while Allehah Van Loan added seven.

Galway 38, Saratoga Central Catholic 25

Tied after one quarter, the Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Saints 17-5 in the game's middle quarters to post the win.

Erica Chase led Galway (1-2, 1-0) with 10 points, while Tegan Matthews added nine.

For SCC (0-1, 0-1) Kaylie Fish had seven points.


Western Athletic Conference

Canajoharie 44, Northville 31

Zach Folts' game-high 15 points helped the Cougars withstand a late Northville rally and win their WAC opener.

Kevin Shannon added 11 points for Canajoharie (2-1, 1-0), while Dillan Veeder and Josh Gonzalez scored eight points apiece.

Nick Jonas came off the bench to knock down three 3-pointers on his way to 11 points for Northville (0-2, 0-1).

Tim Monette and Jim Grega each chipped in with nine points.


Big 10

Amsterdam 7, Troy 0

Jake Cetnar's 617 series helped the Rams sweep Troy.

David Hawkins added a 600 triple for Amsterdam (31-4), which outpinned Troy 3,426-2,361. Amsterdam returns to the lanes Monday against Schenectady at Boulevard Bowl.

Western Athletic Conference

Canajoharie 4, Duanesburg 0

Bailey Pitonza's 599 series and Dakota Montayne's 598 effort paced Canajoharie in a sweep of Duanesburg.

The Cougars outscored Duanesburg 2,906-2,678 on total pins.

Cody Largeteau's 669 series and 259 high game led Duanesburg in defeat.


Big 10

Amsterdam 33, CBA 18

Scott Moore won both of his matches with pins to earn most outstanding wrestler honors as the Amsterdam modified wrestling team opened its season Wednesday with a 33-18 win over Christian Brothers Academy.

Adrien Siudy, Kaylob Pelosi and John Companion also notched pins for Amsterdam, while Jonathan Santiago won a 7-4 decision.


Duanesburg 4, Canajoharie 0

Brie Aonensen fired a 492 series and Duanesburg outpinned Canajoharie 2,003-1,615 to sweep the Lady Cougars.

Kiara Putnam's 156-454 effort topped Canajoharie's scoresheet in defeat.
