Amsterdam Police officers arrested one man this morning who was involved with one of the robberies reported earlier this week.

Daniel R. Pabon, 29, of 21 Bunn St., was charged with first-degree robbery, a class B felony, and third-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor.

Tuesday night, police said they responded to the second reported robbery in two days at Upstate Electronics on Market Street. The male, who police identified as Pabon, reportedly demanded money from the cash register while wielding a knife, Det. Lt. Kurt Conroy said.

An employee of the shop handed over an undetermined amount of cash after Pabon cut his hand with the knife, police said. Pabon then fled northbound on Market Street.

Patrol officers and detectives were able to develop a suspect based on the investigation that began Tuesday night. Pabon was located and placed into custody Wednesday morning.

A search warrant signed by Judge Howard Aison was also executed Wednesday afternoon at a Bunn Street residence. Numerous pieces of evidence involved in the robbery were recovered.

Pabon was arraigned in city court and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. His bail has been set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.

Police continue to search for a suspect associated with the other robbery reported Monday at the Suman Convenience Store in the Riverfront Center.

Monday night, officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Suman Convenience Store in the Riverfront Center, Conroy said. The clerk told police a male entered the store and demanded all the money in the register and a carton of Newport cigarettes.

The male allegedly displayed the butt of a handgun tucked in his waistband but never pointed it at the clerk, Police Chief Gregory Culick said. The male then fled the store in an unknown direction.

The clerk described the suspect as a white male about 5'11'' wearing glasses, blue jeans and a black, unzipped sweatshirt, Culick said.

While surveillance footage was helpful in the case in which Pabon was arrested, the exterior camera at the mall is located in a poorly lit area and all that can be seen is a "dark figure," Culick said.

That case is still open for investigation and officers ask anyone with information to contact police at 842-1100.
