Mr. Stanley "Dashy" Ostrowski, 90, of Bartlett Street, Amsterdam, New York passed away Friday evening, November 30, 2012 at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, New York.

He was born July 6, 1922 in Amsterdam, New York a son of the late Steve and Mary Furman Ostrowski. He was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and was a lifelong resident.

During World War II, Mr. Ostrowski proudly served as a Machinist Mate 1st Class in the Asiatic Pacific area and participated in the liberation of the Philippines.

He was employed by the General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York for over 39 years first in the Gas Turbine Department and later in the Large-Steam Turbine Generator Department before retiring in 1986.

Mr. Ostrowski was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, the Holy Name Society and the former Sacred Heart Society. He was the President of the St. Michael the Archangel Society for over 40 years.He was also a member of the Polish-American Veterans, the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701, the GE Quarter Century Club and GEAA.

On October 9, 1949 he married Theresa Chmielewicz. She died August 14, 1999. He was also predeceased by his sisters Lottie Nowak and Mary Ostrowski, by his brother William Ostrowski and by his son-in-law John Dybas.

On any given summer day, Stanley could be observed tending to his garden and vegetables in a labor of love he continued for many years.

He is survived by his daughters Marian Dybas, Burnt Hills, New York and Janet (Michael) Johnson, Niskayuna, New York; his grandchildren Kevin and Kailyn Johnson; his sister Regina Trzaskos, Amsterdam; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday December 4, 2012 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home 200 Church Street followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church with Rev. Pascal Ianotti, Celebrant. Interment with military honors will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 - 7 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2012 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church or to the American Heart Association.
