Mr. Anthony R. Sumigray, 62, of Queen Ann Road, Amsterdam died peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2012 following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Amsterdam, NY on January 22, 1950 he was the son of Alois Z. and Floy Reed Sumigray.

A lifelong area resident, Tony attended city schools and was a graduate of Dickson State College where he received his Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. He also received his Masters in Public Administration.

He was employed as a Prison Administrator and Parole Commissioner for the New York State Department of Corrections in Albany until his retirement.

Tony loved all sports and played for the city night fast pitch softball league. He coached many youth sports and announced many games. He was active in the former Act IV Youth Center and was a devout catholic. He was a proud member and a founder of The Gentleman's Supper Club and enjoyed cooking for his friends and family.

Tony enjoyed life to its fullest extent. His favorite form of relaxation was boating on the Sacandaga Lake surrounded by those closest to him.

Tony shared his love of golf with his many friends, especially his favorite partner, his son T.J. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him,

Survivors in addition to his mother; his wife Paula L. Redmond Sumigray, whom he married on September 6, 1985; his son, T.J. Sumigray; a brother, Alan Sumigray and his sister, Susan (Silvano) Fossati all of Cranston, RI; and many loving brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tony was predeacsed by his father and a sister, Sandra Heck.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 11 o'clock at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, St. John Street, Amsterdam with Rev. Lawrence Decker as celebrant.

Interment will be private.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday, November 19, 2012 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.

At Tony's request, in lieu of any floral offerings, Please make a donation to T.J. Sumigray to further his golf career c/o the funeral home office.
