Charlotte J. Coons, 84, of Fonda, passed away Sunday evening at Albany Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Born in Perth, NY on March 30, 1929, the daughter of the late John and Hazel Beyer Reese, she lived in this area her entire life.

She was employed at the National Shrine of Kateri Tekakwitha in Fonda for a number of years and was instrumental in the building of the museum and gift shop at the shrine. In her later years, Charlotte was a homemaker. She was a devoted member of the Hagaman United Methodist Church and served on its Board of Trustees.

She was a member and past matron of Mohawk Valley #489, Order of the Eastern Star.

On December 16, 1950 she was united in marriage to Victor A. Coons. He predeceased her on January 14, 2007. She also lost her two brothers, Arnold and Burdette Reese.

Charlotte leaves her daughter Constance "Connie" Winger and her husband Patrick of Darnestown, Md., grandsons Evan and Ryan Winger, sisters in law Margaret and Edna Reese, nieces, nephews and cousins including Ronald and Peg Gibson.

Services are Friday at 10:00 am at the United Methodist Church, Pawling Street Hagaman with the Rev. Cynthia Leonard officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. The Eastern Star will gather at 4:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home to conduct a memorial service for their departed sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church, or the Montgomery Co. SPCA.
