Matilda K. Kormanek
November 9, 2012
Matilda K. Kormanek joined the loving Lord on Friday, November 9, 2012, quietly falling asleep with family near. Matilda shared 100 devoted years with all members of her family. She led a quiet, caring life, enjoying many canine companions. She especially loved sharing her talents of sewing, crafts and gardening with her only daughter, Anne (Richard Frank).
Matilda was born on January 22, 1912, and resided at 4 Bigelow Avenue with her parents, Anna Michalowski Kosinski and Philip Kosinski, and her fourth brothers and sisters; Josephine (Harry O'Dell); Alfred Kosinski (Mary Medwid); Albert Kosinski; and, Sophia (David Thompson). Albert is her only surviving sibling and he resides in Livermore, Calif.
Matilda was a long standing member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Matilda was married to William S. Kormanek and together built their home at 44 Knollwood Avenue. She was a lifelong resident, attended area public schools and accepted employment at area manufacturing companies. She completed her working career by assisting her husband at his real estate business.
When widowed, Matilda came to live with her daughter, Anne and her husband, Richard Frank, on 11 Van Dyke Avenue. She loved being with her two grandchildren, David (Nina) and Christopher. Her cherished memories during their growing up will always be with them.
Never demanding and always loving, Matilda completed her days at the Wilkinson Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, where she found herself cared for by many. Everyone loved her quiet and unselfish personality. Anne visited daily, bringing her the favorite ice cream cone.
Much gratitude is extended to the staff of Wilkinson's facility, who not only cared for Matilda with respect and dignity, but also helped the family through this sad time of loss of a cherished parents, loved grandmother, admired sister and honored aunt.
Celebration of Matilda's 100 years will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Amsterdam. Family and friends are invited to attend.
Donations in Matilda's name can be made to Montgomery County SPCA, 1007 Route 5S, Amsterdam; or, to St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.
