ELMA -- The Fonda-Fultonville boys cross country team finished in second place at the Class C state championships, as the Matt Hoffman-led Braves were bested Saturday by Section I's Pawling.

"Sometimes," said F-F head coach Mark Therrien, "you just have to accept that the other teams are pretty good, too."

Hoffman finished in second place in the team portion of the Class C boys race, as the senior needed just 16 minutes, 23 seconds to run his race.

F-F's Tyler Angioli came in eighth place with a time of 16 minutes, 58 seconds; Jimmy Westman, Dylan DeSorbo and Cameron Gilligan each finished in fewer than 18 minutes; and, Dalton Hunter and Omijah Piening finished in fewer than 19 minutes.

"The kids did a great job," said Therrien. "Our kids were happy with [their finish]. We're really proud of how they finished."

Therrien was especially happy with DeSorbo's and Gilligan's finish. The duo finished within two seconds of each other, each passing several runners in the closing stretch.

"They were in a dead sprint at the finish," Therrien said.

The local area also sent several individual runners to the competition at Elma Meadows Golf Course.

In the girls' Class C race, F-F freshman Jamie Kasza finished in ninth place with a time of 19 minutes, 28 seconds; meanwhile, teammate Kim Geniti finished in 41st place with a time of 20 minutes, 33 seconds.

In the Class D race for girls, Mayfield's Lidija Nikollaj finished in 22 minutes, 2 seconds.

In the boys' race, Broadalbin-Perth's Greg Bogdan needed 17 minutes, 7 seconds to finish in 188th in the Class C race. Mayfield's Tom McClellan finished in sixth place with a time of 16 minutes, 37 seconds in the Class D race.
