Nancy (Annie) O'Meara Hopkins

Mrs. Nancy (Annie) O'Meara Hopkins, 88, a resident of the Sarah Jane Sanford Home and formerly of Coolidge Rd, Amsterdam, passed away Thursday morning November 7, 2013 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health care facility in Amsterdam.

Born on May 27, 1925 in Liverpool, England. She was raised in Dublin, Northern Ireland and attended schools there.

She came to the United States and Amsterdam in 1949 and became a U.S. Citizen. She was employed by Mohasco Industries and later was the Coordinator for the County Meals For the Elderly in Amsterdam. She enjoyed refurbishing furniture and was a past Instructor at FMCC in Johnstown, NY.

She also was a past member of the Century Club in Amsterdam. Nancy was Miss Mohawk Valley for the Amsterdam Sesqui-centennial celebration in 1954. She was a 50 year member of the United Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam and was a member of the Church choir.

On April 8, 1961 she was united in marriage to Earl Hopkins, Jr. He passed away on September 8, 2011.

Survivors include her two sons, Stephen (Kathren) Hopkins, and Bruce (Denise) Hopkins all of Amsterdam; and granddaughters Lauren and Audra Hopkins.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 10:30A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. with Rev. Bonnie Orth presiding.

Private Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. A calling period will be held on Saturday morning prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:00A.M. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Nancy's name to the Sarah Jane Sanford Home, 69 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. A Special Thanks to Jeanne R. So, R.N. Administrator of the Sarah Jane Sanford Home and her staff for the wonderful care extended to Nancy while at the home.
