Marion M. Hanson, 88, of 157 Hanson Drive, Tribes Hill, NY, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY. She was born on August 12, 1924 in Johnstown, NY to Amelia and Francis Dwyer. She married Richard L. Hanson II on April 5, 1942.

Marion graduated from Johnstown High School in June of 1942.

She was originally employed by the Dillenbus glove factory in Johnstown, NY. She then owned and operated the R&R Diner in Tribes Hill, NY for many years. She later worked at the F.F.C.S. cafeteria. Once she retired, Marion enjoyed making cakes for friends and family.

Marion was a member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church in Tribes Hill, NY and a member of the church guild. She served as a president, treasurer, deacon, and elder during her many years at the church. Marion was also a member of the Tribes Hill Iroquois Seniors.

She was a 50 year member of the Tribes Hill Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, as well as a past president of the Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Montgomery County Firefighter's Association and served as a president and county delegate. Marion was a member of the Fonda Fair Advisory Board.

Marion enjoyed making and decorating cakes for her family and friends. She also made several amazing wedding cakes that she will be remembered for.

Marion was predeceased by her husband Richard L. Hanson II on February 26, 2007 and her brothers, Francis, Melvin, Richard and Charles; sisters, Betty Tyrell, Mildred Russo, Anna Marie Calandrella, and Genevieve Pileggi. Survivors include brother, Paul Dwyer of Gloversville, her six devoted children of Tribes Hill, NY; Millie (Charles) Moran, Marion (Gerald) Wilder, Margaret (Martin) Simonds, , Richard L. (Pamela) Hanson III, George F. Hanson (Richard MacKenzie), and Marie (Jerome) Fryc, twelve grandchildren; Richard L. Hanson IV (Marsha), Timothy (Anne) Hanson, Brian (Shanon) Hanson, Jackie Hanson, Grant (Stacy) Wilder, Greg (Melody) Wilder, Wendy (Clayton) Blowers, Thadd (Nikki Durrin) Simonds , Rich (Crystal) Moran, Todd (April) Moran, Sarah Fryc, Jeffrey Fryc; twenty wonderful great-grandchildren, Brittani and Brody Hanson, Collin, Katelyn, Connor, Cody and Kianna Hanson, Breanna, Camron, and Kaylah Hanson and Tyler Bissell, Chase Moran and, Ashley Fonda, Tyler Blowers, Rhyana Simonds, Caleb and Abby Wilder, Eliza, Ava, and Isabella Wilder.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 1 o'clock at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Laurence C. "Larry" Greenwold presiding. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday evening from 4 until 7p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church or the Richard L. Hanson II Scholarship Fund, both in care of the funeral home office.
