Braves fall to Chatham in Class C showdown

CHATHAM -- Tyler Van Brunt rushed for 203 yards and four touchdowns and also had an interception to lift Chatham to a 44-14 victory over previously unbeaten Fonda-Fultonville in a Section II Class C South Division game on Friday night.

Van Brunt scored on runs of 15 and 5 yards in the second quarter as Chatham (5-0, 4-0 South Division) responded from going down 7-0 after the first quarter with 22 straight points before halftime. He added touchdown runs of 2 and 78 yards in the second half, while Troy Pierce and Tyler Rivera also added touchdown runs.

Al Kelly ran for 134 yards for the Panthers, while Rivera added 96 cards on just four carries.

Russ Williams tossed a pair of touchdown passes for Fonda-Fultonville (4-1, 3-1) -- a 27-yarder to Brandon Baker in the first quarter and a 25-yarder to Cam Ives in the third.

Class D

Canajoharie 40, Schoburg 0

Dillan Veeder returned a pair of punts for touchdowns, and the Cougars' defense held Schoburg to minus-3 yards of total offense to post a dominant win.

Veeder had returns of 68 and 47 yards for the Cougars (4-1, 2-1 Class D South), while Nathan Ferguson added a pair of touchdown runs as part of a 23-carry, 104-yard rushing performance. Zack Ruszkowski and Robert Clothier also had touchdown runs for Canajoharie, while Zach Folts recorded a pair of sacks to lead a smothering defensive effort.


Western Athletic Conference

Mayfield 3,

Saratoga Catholic 2

Todd Briggs scored eight minutes into overtime to give Mayfield a thrilling win over Saratoga Catholic.

Jordan VanNostrand and Tyler Yacano also scored for Mayfield.

Liam Rice and Ryan Czarnecki each scored for the Saints.

The Panthers outshot Saratoga Catholic, 7-5.


Western Athletic Conference

O-E-SJ 2, Northville 1

Tabea Salzmann scored two goals and Rylie Smith added a goal and assist to lead Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville to a victory over Northville in a game played at Broadalbin-Perth High School.

O-E-St. Johnsville (8-2, 9-3-1) outshot Northville 14-7.

Leann Clark had six saves in the net for O-E St. Johnsville while Taylor Fancher recorded 11 saves for Northville.

Schoharie 4, Fort Plain 0

Carolyn Krohn scored two goals and Seana Cleveland and Kaitlyn Kendle each tallied a goal apiece to propel Schoharie past


Western Athletic Conference

Galway 3, Schoharie 0

Emily Orminski tallied 11 points, five kills and five assists and Brittany Orminski chipped in with seven points, five kills and four digs to lead Galway to a win over Schoharie.

Galway (11-0, 12-0) won by scores 25-9, 25-13, 25-13.

Rachel Jones contributed with nine service points, seven kills and one dig.
