Tullio DeMartinis

Tullio DeMartinis, 84, of Mason Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving family

Born in Alife, Prov. Of Caserta, Italy on Feb. 8, 1928, he was the son of the late Oreste and Luisa Ruggiano DeMartinis. Educated in Italy, he came to Amsterdam in 1953 and has resided here since.

Tullio was a noted cook and began his long career in that field in 1955 working for DiCaprio's Diner.

In 1966 he began his own business on Church & Federal Street when he took over the former Shep Romano's Lunchenette. He operated it as Tullio's Diner for a number of years with his wife. When Urban Renewal took over the property in 1970, he relocated to the corner of Washington and Main. In 1972, he founded Tullio's Diner on Chuctanunda Street, an Amsterdam fixture for a number of years until their retirement November 26, 1997.

He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus' Roman Catholic Church and an Honorary Life Member of Council 209 Knights of Columbus, the Msgr. William A. Browne Assembly 4th degree and its Color Corps.

On May 28, 1953, he was united in marriage to the former Filomena Sasso. In addition to his beloved wife of fifty nine years, he leaves his loving son The Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis pastor of St. Stanislaus and St. Stephen's parishes. His sister, Benedetta Massone of Milan, Italy; Brothers in law; John Sasso of Amsterdam, Giuseppe (Emilia) Sasso of Alife, Vincent (Maria) Sasso and Salvatore (AnnMarie) Sasso all of Amsterdam; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

His daughter, Luisa Ann DeMartinis passed away on November 30, 2005. Also, his brothers Antonio and Vinice DeMartinis and a sister Christina Pacilio have passed away.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated Friday afternoon at 5:00pm at St. Stanislaus' Church 50 Cornell Street. Tullio's son, Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis will be main celebrant.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday afternoon from 2:00pm until the Mass at 5:00pm at St. Stanislaus' Church.

Entombment will take place at the convenience at the family at their mausoleum in St. Casimir's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to St. Stanislaus' Memorial Fund, or the church Renovation Fund, or to the Montgomery Co. Office for Aging.
