In their words

Below are what local representatives in Congress are saying about the ongoing budget battle in Washington.

"Albert Einstein once defined insanity as 'doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.' That is exactly what we have seen out of House leadership again today."

-- PAUL TONKO, D-Amsterdam. Tonko's district includes the eastern part of Montgomery County.

"Keep in mind not a single Republican voted for the Senate [continuing resolution] and yet [Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid] demands that he will not negotiate and that the House must accept his CR. This in an era of divided government -- but it's Reid's way or the highway."

-- CHRIS GIBSON, R-Kinderhook. Gibson's district includes the western part of Montgomery County.

"Allowing the federal government to shut down is wholly irresponsible -- we cannot afford to damage the economy or halt critical services."

-- BILL OWENS, D-Plattsburgh. Owens' district includes Fulton County.
