Sala's penalty kick helps Canajoharie beat Duanesburg

DUANESBURG -- Logan Sala converted a penalty kick in the first overtime period to provide the deciding goal as the Canajoharie High School boys soccer team won a wild, 3-2 decision over Duanesburg in Western Athletic Conference play Wednesday.

Sala also scored on a penalty kick to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead in the second half before Duanesburg's Mikkel Roade headed in a corner kick with 10 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

Zachary Beam scored directly off a corner kick in the first half for Canajoharie, which got 14 saves from goalkeeper Zachary Young.

Roade also scored in the first half for Duanesburg, while Brett LaBelle made nine saves.

Northville 1,

Mekeel Christian Academy 0

Will Wilson scored just past the midway point of the first half as the Falcons edged MCA.

Wilson's game-winner came on a header after Skyler Buyce beat his mark on the outside and delivered a perfect cross into the penalty area.

Tim Monette made six saves to record the shutout for Northville (7-0-2 WAC).

Jacob Kahler stopped four shots for Mekeel Christian (2-4-1).

Schoharie 5, Fort Plain 0

James Sackett scored two goals to lead unbeaten Schoharie to a win over Fort Plain.

Devon Brooks and Richie Martino each added a goal and an assist for the winners (7-0-1).

O-E-St. Johnsville 6,

Sharon Springs 1

Devan Battisti's hat trick led the way as the Wolves scored five times in the first half to roll past Sharon Springs.

Battisti also added an assist, while Dylan Klock and Tristian Engle each had a goal and an assist for Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville. Andrew Hart chipped in with a goal as well, and Nate Trumbull made four saves in goal to notch the win.

Tyler Bianchine scored for Sharon Springs off an assist for Mason Handy. Sharon Springs goalkeeper Donovan Roberts made 11 saves.

Western Athletic Conference

Fort Plain 3,

O-E-St. Johnsville 1

Emily Potter's strong all-around game resulted in three kills, two aces, seven digs and a block as the Lady Hilltoppers picked up a 25-22, 25-13, 18-25, 25-16 win over Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville..

Shawna Cotton chipped in eight aces and five assists for Fort Plain, while Brandy Walters had five digs and a pair of kills.

Katie Pabis led O-E-SJ with 10 kills. Kyleigh Hayner added six kills and three digs for the Lady Wolves, Shelbey McCumber added seven assists and Shamrin Flanders contributed four blocks and four kills.

Mayfield 3,

Saratoga Central Catholic 0

Kaylee Bumpus had a match-best 11 kills to go along with three digs as the Lady Panthers notched a 25-13, 25-22, 25-18 sweep of Saratoga Catholic.

Miranda Eagan added five kills and five assists for Mayfield (7-2, 7-1 WAC), while Bailey Ward had four kills, Kiera Davis picked up five aces and Bri Eagan contributed nine digs.

Elle Valentine had three aces and three assists for the Lady Saints (3-4, 3-4). Emilie Brownell chipped in four aces, Anna Leone recorded seven digs and Emily Miller added five digs of her own.

GIRLS SOCCER

Western Athletic Conference

Mekeel Christian Academy 3, Northville 1

Lexy Rychick and Lindsay McCarty each scored in the second half as the Lady Lions edged Northville.

Macie Holmes also scored for MCA, while Rebekkah Dean made 15 saves.

Mary Ryan scored on a direct kick in the first half for Northville (4-4 WAC), while Mallory Hook stopped seven shots.

GIRLS TENNIS

Big 10

Amsterdam 7, Albany 2

The Lady Rams improved to 10-1 with another league victory.

Singles players Ella Dybas, Audrey Flint, Caitlin Gannon and Gabby DiSalvi all were straight-set winners for AHS, while the doubles teams of Tessa Filiberto and Prabha Singh, Molly Monge and Maddie Janetsky, and Gianna Quatrini and Amber Richardson also posted two-set wins.

AHS travels to Schoharie on Thursday.
