Melvin Carrero, 45, of Marion, Ohio, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus Ohio following a brief illness.

Born in the Bronx, NY on June 25, 1968 a son of Thomas Carrero and Virginia Nieves.

Melvin worked as a phlebotomist for a time and as a corrections officer in Puerto Rico.

Melvin enjoyed sports like fishing, bodybuilding and boxing.

He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Virginia Nieves Carrero of Amsterdam NY; his companion, Kathleen Wilkins of Marion, Ohio; two daughters, Stephanie Carrero of Tampa, Florida and Eileen Carrero of Puerto Rico; two brothers, Armando Torres from Florida and Thomas Carrero of Monroe, NY; two sisters, Dalila Roman and Maricela Gomez both of Amsterdam; one granddaughter, Dannaya Castillo. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was predeceased by a son, Joshua Mekel Carrero who died at birth.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:00.AM. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam New York.

Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam NY.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00.PM. at the funeral home.
