A return to afternoon newspapering

Tuesday, September 03, 2013 - Updated: 10:25 AM

Good afternoon.

We hope you have enjoyed your day thus far and are now ready to sit for a bit and check out what has been going on in the area since last we met.

You hold in your hands the first edition of The Recorder's return to the world of afternoon newspapering. And while some of you have been more than generous in sharing your opinions as to why this was the worst idea since we decided to become a morning newspaper about a decade ago, we hope to win over our most vocal critics, and maintain our loyal supporters, through this transition.

Those among you who are accustomed to receiving the local dish in the morning should keep in mind that our website -- www.recordernews.com -- will be updated throughout the morning and into the afternoon with news from the local desk as well as the state, national and international stage. A lot of what you will receive when we arrive every afternoon will already have been posted online.

And as you online subscribers have learned, we send out bulletins and e-mail newsletters during the day to keep you updated.

We hope that while you adjust to our new schedule (while we make similar adjustments on this end) you will let us know how we're doing. If you have something you'd like to see in the paper, please let us know about it. Our e-mail addresses are found throughout the newspaper and our telephone numbers are located at the bottom of Page 2. Together, we'll make this work.

Thanks for giving us a shot. And enjoy your evening.
