Mr. Daniel (Aniello) C. DeRossi, 71, of Market Street, Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at his home with his loving family by his side following a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Amsterdam on September 2, 1941, a son of the late Rolando and Angelina Bombardatore DeRossi, Dan was a lifelong area resident. He attended local schools and graduated in 1959 from the former Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School. He went on to attend Albany Business College for accounting and later received his Bachelor's Degree in accounting and business administration from the College of St. Rose.

Dan was employed as an auditor by Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam, the New York State Thruway Authority, the New York State Department of Social Services and the New York State Department of Health, retiring in 2007. While at the NYS Department of Health, Dan was selected to a 14-member team to develop and implement eMedNY, which was the replacement of the NYS Medicaid System. The team built the largest computer Medicaid system in the country.

Dan was a communicant of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and most recently the Parish of St. Joseph, St. Michael and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Amsterdam. He served as a lector and was a former member of the Parish Council. He was vice chairman of the church's Finance Committee. He was a member and past president of St. Michael's Holy Name Society and a member of the St. Agnello Society. For many years he coached the St. Michael's CYO basketball team. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council #209 and a Fourth Degree Knight with the Monsignor William A. Browne Assembly.

Dan was active in the community, having served as chairman of the Amsterdam Industrial Development Agency, a member of the city's Zoning Board of Appeals and a member of the Board of Directors of the Fulton and Montgomery Counties Mental Health Association. For 14 years, Dan was a member of the Greater Amsterdam School District Board of Education, having served as vice president and president. On May 7, 2013, Dan was presented with the key to the city by Mayor Ann Thane recognizing him for his dedication and service to the city of Amsterdam.

Dan was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed spending time with his family at their timeshare in Lake Placid, N.Y., as well as yearly trips to the seashore in Cape May, NJ. He also enjoyed golfing, and was a long-time member of the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course.

On September 10, 1966, Dan married Lorraine (Lorri) Buczek. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his two beloved daughters, Michele DeRossi and Gina DeRossi of Amsterdam, and his precious "Granddog" Chip. Also surviving are his dear brother, Claude (Cynthia) DeRossi of Amsterdam, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Barbara (Joseph) Mazur of Alexandria,VA, Gerard (Jeannine) Buczek of Ocala, FL, and Gregory (Joan) Buczek of Johnstown.

Dan is survived also by his aunts, Jean (Patrick) Eliseo and Carmella Kazlauskas of Schenectady, and cherished Godchildren, niece Marialana DeRossi of Niskayuna, nephew David (Kathleen) DeRossi of Rotterdam, and William (Lisa) Machold of Illinois, as well as nieces and nephews, Karen (David) Israel, Gregory (Kathleen) Mazur, Adrienne and Phillip Buczek and great-niece Sarah DeRossi and great-nephews Nicholas DeRossi and Isaac Israel. Many special cousins include William (Amy) Machold, Edmund DeRossi, Joanne (Todd) Langley, Michael Eliseo, Raymond (Phyllis) DeRossi, Diana (Bob) Seeley, Nancy (Ralph) Rusilas, Josephine Uhlinger, Mary Lou (Chuck) Colvin, Michael DaBiere, Rose Eleanor Rzesos, Clem (Debbie) DaBiere, Frank (Rosemarie) Bumbardatore and Joanne (Richard) Vincent.

Dan was a wonderful husband and father and friend to many, and he will be missed deeply.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 11:15A.M. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam, St. John St, Amsterdam with Father Lawrence J. Decker and Father Pascal "Pat" Iannotti concelebrating.

Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 3:00 to 7:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam.

The family would like to thank Dr. Karen Tedesco and all the wonderful staff at NYOH, the nurses at Community Health Center, the dedicated and caring staff of Community Hospice of Amsterdam, and Dr. Peter Diamond for the special care and compassion extended throughout Dan's illness. In addition, the family wishes to express gratitude to Dan's many friends who helped keep his spirits up during his time of need.
