Police: Tractor trailer stuck in drive-thru

At 1 p.m. this afternoon, Amsterdam police were trying to figure out how to move a tractor trailer stuck in the Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru lane of the Volero gas station after it hit a telephone pole.

Officer Alan Drake said at approximately 12:10 p.m., the truck driver pulled into the parking lot, located across from Thruway Exit 27 off Route 30.

In an attempt to turn around, the driver tried to drive around the building, but hit the height clearance and drive-thru signs.

When he reached the back of the building, his truck was blocked by parked vehicles, and he was forced to drive in reverse. He hit the guard rail and telephone pole, and became stuck, police said.

"National Grid has to check the pole before we can move the truck," Drake said. He didn’t know how long it would take.

The driver's name was not immediately released.

GAVAC transported the driver, described as an elderly gentleman, to St. Mary's Hospital for evaluation as a precaution.

Amsterdam Fire Department is also on the scene.
