Mrs. Helen Kachan, 83, of Hewitt Street, Amsterdam, New York passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 at St. Mary's Healthcare.

She was born August 12, 1931 in Ukraine a daughter of the late Ivan and Anna Yaremanko Schwedatschenko. Educated in Ukraine, Mrs. Kachan came to the area in 1949 residing here since.

For many years she was employed by Mohawk Dress as a seamstress before retiring.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Troy New York. She was also a member of the former Ukrainian-American Citizens Club.

She was married to Anatoly Kachan on May 12, 1949. He died March 17, 2014.

She was also predeceased by her son, Paul Kachan, her brother, Michael Schwedatschenko and her sister, Nadia.

Survivors include her son, Michael A. Kachan, Amsterdam, New York; granddaughters, Melissa M. Kachan and Nicole Nichols, Amsterdam, New York and cousins.

Parastas will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York with Rev. Vasyl Dovgan.

Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 391 2nd Street, Troy, New York 12080.
