The Amsterdam Free Library will host Summer Reading Program: Schoharie Crossing Visits at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. At 3 p.m. the Civility Project and at 4 p.m. More Summer Fun: Movies @ the Library.


Swim team tryouts for the Amsterdam Sea Rams is scheduled at 6 p.m. at the Amsterdam city pool, Veterans Park, Locust Avenue. The team is open to youth swimmers aged 6 to 18 who can swim a 25-yard freestyle from the Amsterdam area, including but not limited to Fonda, Broadalbin, Perth, Johnstown, Gloversville, Mayfield, and Canajoharie. Please bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, and a copy of your birth certificate. The Amsterdam Sea Rams is a swim club with applicable fees, and is not a learn to swim program. The swim season generally begins the first week of October and runs through the Adirondack Swimming Short Course Gold Championships in March. A free movie night will be held at the Sanford Stud Farm, 4995 Route 30. The movie is Secretariat. The movie begins at dusk. Bring a lawn chair and/or blanket. Refreshments will be available, courtesy of the Friends of Sanford Stud Farm.


The Edinburg Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at the Edinburg Community Center, Military Road, at 7 p.m. "House Stories" will be presented by members relating the history of area homes and past occupants. WIC, the women, infant, children nutrition program, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 53 Church St. A public health nurse will be available from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon. For more information, call 736-5720.



The Amsterdam Free Library will host Summer Reading Program: Utica Zoo at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. Reptiles and Amphibians visit the library and at 3 p.m. More Summer Fun: Movies @ the Library.


The Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold its 39th annual Scholarship Golf Tournament at Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course. Proceeds from this event benefit the chamber's scholarship program, which will present six $1,000 scholarships, to students in the Fulton Montgomery region in 2015. The $125 registration fee includes greens fees and cart, lunch, snacks, on-course refreshments, goody bag, golf gift and dinner and awards reception. Registration for golfers are limited and available on a first-come, first served basis. The chamber is accepting donations from its business members for its prize raffle. Old Fort Johnson National Historic Landmark's Evenings at the Old Fort Program will present "Bits and Slices: A High-Tech Look at Colonial History" scheduled at 6:30 p.m. The final program in the series will show what recent studies, using 3D laser scanning and ground penetrating radar, are revealing about the above and below ground history of the site. Admission is $2 per person, and members of the Montgomery County Historical Society are free. Open auditions for "Almost Maine" have been scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. at Colonial Little Theatre. "Almost Maine" is a romantic comedy by John Cariani. There are roles for ten women and nine men. Ages are flexible. Some actors will be asked to play more than one role, director Cheryl Charbonneau said. Production dates will be Oct. 10-12, 17-19. The Amsterdam Free Library will host Summer Reading Program: Paint Your Clay Monster at 10:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. Create a Monster and at 3 p.m. More Summer Fun: Movies @ the Library.


The GFWC Century Club will be hosting its annual "Garden Fresh Dinner" event from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost is $10 per person and the menu will be cream of zucchini soup, zucchini parmesan, tangy cucumber salad, and Italian bread. Dessert will be zucchini cobbler. Ice tea and lemonade will be available for those who wish to eat-in. Takeout orders are also available. The event will additionally feature a bake sale and 50/50 raffle. Reservations are appreciated and may be made by calling Kim at 853-4733.


The Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary is hosting its annual ice cream social from 6 to 8 p.m. at the fire house, 167 Riverview Drive. Soda, water, and popcorn will be available for sale. Admission is $3, which includes ice cream and dessert, with all money raised to support the local fire department auxiliary.


A chicken and rib barbecue will be held in the parking lot across the street from the Fonda Raceway from 3:30 to 7 p.m.
