5K planned for F-F graduate

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- A 5K event is planned in September to benefit Fonda-Fultonville Central School District graduate Trevor Corneau, 32, who suffered a spinal cord injury May 28, 2010.

The What Would Trevor Do Run N' Roll for Hope 5K is scheduled Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Warming Hut at Saratoga Spa State Park. Proceeds will benefit a fundraising campaign established in Corneau's honor through HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit that helps patients and families afford uncovered medically-related expenses through grass-roots fundraising.

Funds raised at the 5k will help assist with uninsured medical expenses associated with his catastrophic injury. For more information visit our website at www.Runnroll5K.com Average yearly expenses for a spinal cord injury $650,000.

Safe child registration set

There will be two opportunities to register children this weekend for the NYS Operation Safe Child program.

Look for the Fulton County Sheriff's Office K-9 Team at the kids' night & car show

Johnstown Pizza Hut on North Comrie Avenue Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

The team will also be on hand to accept registrations at the Adirondack Harley Davidson in Vail Mills Saturday between noon and 6 p.m. for the police, fire & military appreciation event.

Registering children with the program helps police to immediately issue an amber alert in the event that the child goes missing. Registration should be updated every two years. Registration is free and it can start as early as 18 months old.

Pageant sign-ups under way

FONDA -- The 29th Annual Miss Fonda Fair Pageant Program is currently accepting applications for the 2014 season. Deadline for entry is Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Applications are available at www.fondafair.-com.

The pageant is scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 26. The Princess Pageant will be held at 4:30 p.m., and the Miss Fonda Fair Pageant will be held at 7 p.m.

Miss Fonda Fair pageant is open to girls ages 5-24 years old who are residents of Fulton or Montgomery counties. The pageant will include a mandatory interview with pageant judges, plus the final on-stage competition.

Winners will make public appearances at the Fonda Fair each day during Fair Week, and appear during fair activities throughout the year. All contestants are also invited to participate in the fair's Labor Day parade.

Singer Anthony Gargiula of Albany and his dancers will be performing during and after the pageant at the Fonda Fairgrounds' Kane Entertainment Building. Gargiula will play a 45 minute dance party concert after the completion of the pageant.

Kitty group plans fundraiser

Feline Guardian Angels will be hosting their third annual wine and spirit tasting event at the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course Aug. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be various wine, beer and spirit tasting, along with complementary snacks for participants.

The donation at the door is $5 per person, which will also entitles every participant for a chance at the door prize.

There will be live entertainment, a 50/50 raffle, and basket raffles. Feline Guardian Angels is a 501c3 TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) program which services Montgomery County.

The group is volunteer-based and is supported strictly by donations. All proceeds will be used to continue the group's efforts to spay/neuter, test and vaccinate feral cats in the area.

Inman Center to host Tai Chi

The Inman Senior Center and the Montgomery County Office for Aging is sponsoring a 6-week Tai Chi session Friday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. at the Inman Senior Center, 53 Guy Park Avenue.

The first session will be Sept. 5.

The classes will be taught by certified Tai Chi instructor, Earl O'Bryan, who has also instructed several Tai Chi classes in the area, including the Rotterdam Senior Center and the Schoharie Covered Bridge.

The cost is $20 for members of the center, and $30 for non-members. Payment needs to be received by Sept. 3.

Group plans benefit dinner

FORT PLAIN -- Am Vets Post No. 2000, 990 Route 163, is hosting a roast beef dinner Saturday, Aug. 9, at 5 p.m.

The dinner costs $10 per person, and includes roast beef and sides.

The event is open to the public, and is a fundraiser for the U.S.S. Albany, and members who served on that ship.

The group is also seeking new members. For more information, call Kate Greene at 852-9146. It's a civic group that provides services for area veterans.
