Five arrested in drug bust

Five Amsterdam residents were arrested Thursday morning during a drug sweep that was the culmination of a six-month investigation.

The Amsterdam Police Department in conjunction with State Police’s Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office executed two search warrants and four arrest warrants for suspects selling drugs in Amsterdam around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

Search warrants were executed at 39 Elizabeth St. and the first floor of 259 Division St., a police report stated.

The following arrests were made:

• Elizabeth Willsey, 30, of 39 Elizabeth St., was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. According to police, over five grams of cocaine, glassine envelopes of heroin and over $800 in cash was confiscated during the search warrant.

• Shayzon Taylor, 30, of 259 Division St., was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

• Carol Drescher, 31, of 358 Division St, was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled sibstance and unlawful possession of marijuana. According to police Drescher was in possession of more than 10 grams of cocaine and a small amount of marijuana during the arrest warrant.

• Trevon Williams, 21, of 22 Northampton Road, was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

• Preston (PJ) Beverly, 48, of 72 Mechanic St., was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Beverly was arrested during an unrelated investigation, police said. Allegedly he was wanted for heroin sales in the city his arrest was found to be in possession of 27 glassine envelopes of heroin and $885 in cash.

All of the defendants were arraigned in city court today before the Hon. Lisa Lorman. Additional arrests are possible and the investigation is continuing.

There is currently one suspect, who has an active arrest warrant for drug sales and remains at large, police said.
