An initiative created by a branch of Centro Civico in Amstedam to collect data from area youth has not met its goal of 500 collected surveys.

The last of five events is this Saturday at the city pool.

Mid-June, Fabrizia Rodriguez, director of community development at Centro Civico, had set a goal to have 500 surveys completed. So far, the agency has only collected around 100.

Rodriguez said the surveys will help Centro Civico collect data about the behaviors the targeted area youth, ages 12-18, are involved in.

Most widely believed stereotypes about youth in the area is that they smoke marijuana, have unprotected sex and get pregnant young, she said. With the collected data, Rodriguez said she hoped to learn more about the true behaviors of the youth and then, once analyzed, create programs to cater to them.

Rodriguez set up five events in the city that were free, as long as participants filled out a survey. She said the volleyball tournament and skate night weren’t very successful, but she noticed Saturday events garnered more teens.

The flag football tournament, July 27, was the most popular event so far.

The final event will be at the city pool on Locust Avenue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Teens can get in for free as long as they complete a survey.
