John E. Bloomer Jr.

John E. Bloomer, Jr., of State Highway 162, Esperance, NY, passed away peacefully at the Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta, NY.

Born September 21, 1929 in Cooperstown, New York he was the son of the late J. Emory and Wilma Curry Bloomer.

He was a 1948 graduate of Cooperstown Central School.

John was employed as a truck driver for the Interstate Brands of Albany for over 20 years and later worked for the Town of Charleston for five years until he retired out of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters #669 of Albany in 1991.

John was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Hartford, NY. He was also a member of the Charleston Volunteer Fire Department since 1967 and a former member of the Canajoharie Moose.

At one time John loved to hunt and go fishing but he really enjoyed going to Largo Florida.

On September 24, 1950 he married the former Mary Hoover who passed away November 2, 2005. He was also predeceased by two sons, Joseph and Thomas Bloomer; a brother Ernest Bloomer and a sister, June Travis.

Survivors include three sons John E. (Jackie) Bloomer III of Esperance, David (Dorothy) Bloomer of Lawton, OK, and Mark (Linda) Bloomer of Largo, FL; three daughters, Mary-Ellen Baker of Cobleskill, Mary Jane (Jim) Schafer of Charlottesville, NY and Hazel (Ray) Martin of Cobleskill; two brothers, Malcom Bloomer of Mt. Vision, NY and Kenneth Bloomer of St. Louis, MO; three sisters, Elaine More of Springfield Center, NY, Genevera Placek of St. Petersburg, FL and Velma Vibberd of Burlington Flats, NY; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Private funeral services were held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville with the Rev. Brenda Tompkins officiating.

Private burial took place at the Charleston Christian Church Cemetery, Charleston 4 Corners.

Memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the Charleston Volunteer Fire Department, 1314 E. Lykers Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.
