JoAnn Vass, 67, passed away Friday evening at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany with her family at her side.

Born in Niskayuna, NY on December 7, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Pauline Handy Stegel and was a graduate of Shalmont High School.

JoAnn worked for Mohawk Sportswear and was a part owner of Table Talk Bakery in Amsterdam, and later served as general manager of High Rollers Skating Rink in Perth.

She enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends; travelling, arts and crafts and being with her beloved dog Abby.

On October 1, 1966 she was united in marriage to Eugene Vass. He predeceased her on Sept. 25, 2009. In addition to her parents and husband, a sister Margaret has also passed away.

She leaves her daughter Deanna Welytok of Amsterdam; son Eugene Vass II of San Francisco, CA; granddaughter Ashley Welytok of Amsterdam; beloved dog Abby; sisters Betty Lucas of Ft. Meyers, Fla. and Frances Service of Utica; dear friends, nieces and nephews.

Services are Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue.

Interment is in St. John's Cemetery.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday from 4:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny's Corner Rd. Amsterdam 12010.
