Leonard Morris Sochin

Leonard Morris Sochin, 94, son of the late David and Jane Sochin, of Albany and formerly of Amsterdam, NY, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Esther (Goldstein) Sochin; Loving father of Dana Kramer and Joel, and Sharon Radden and Jeffrey. Cherished grandfather of Glenn and Allison, Brad and Danielle, Daniel and Jennifer and Eric; great grandfather of Talia, Zoe, Jacob, Edward and Micah and his adoring sister Ruth Sochin Family as well as several nieces.

Leonard was a clothier in Amsterdam for over fifty years and was the owner of the former Len Sochin's Men's Shop. His store was always a hub for political discussions on all levels. Leonard was very proud of his service in the Navy during World War II, having served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters of Operations. He was also at the landing on the beach in Normandy on D-Day and was awarded the Lifetime Medal from the French government. He was a former president of the Congregation Sons of Israel, a member of the Amsterdam Masonic Lodge, and the BPO Elks Lodge. He also sponsored a bowling team and was an original member of the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course.

Services are Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Congregation Sons of Israel, 355 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Cantor Glenn Groper officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in Temple of Israel Cemetery, Cranesville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the National Parkinson's Foundation, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741. His family has entrusted his care to the staff of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. On-line guestbook at www.brbsfuneral.com.
