The Amsterdam 11U baseball team will be hosting the American Amateur Baseball Congress state championships at Isabel's Field on July 25-27.
Amsterdam will be hosting the four-team double elimination tournament with the winner advancing to the Gil Hodges 11U World Series slated for Aug. 1-5 in Brooklyn.
South Troy Dodgers and Tri-City Bombers are both slated to compete. A third team is expected to join the field next week.
Also, the Amsterdam 11U squad baseball team will be at Thursday's Amsterdam Mohawks game at Shuttleworth Park to raise funds for their week-long Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament next summer at Dreams Park.
Over 100 teams from around the country will compete in the national single-elimination tournament. Amsterdam will play a minimum of seven games against squads from California to Florida.
The team will be staying on the Cooperstown Dreams Park grounds for the entire week. Also, there will be Opening Ceremonies and a skills competition slated to take place in Little Majors Stadium. There are 22 lighted enclosed baseball stadiums, 104 clubhouses in a baseball village on 150 acres.
The squad won its own Memorial Day Tournament earlier this year and finished with the second-best divisional record in the 21-team Empire State Travel Baseball League this spring. Amsterdam, which won both the Johnstown and Fonda tournaments last season as 10-year-olds, will compete in the seven-team Empire State Travel Baseball All-County Tournament at Spring Little League on Friday.
