Carmela Corvene, 101, passed away Tuesday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson RHCF after a brief illness.
Born in New York City on October 17, 1912, the daughter of Nicolo and Rachel Lauria Emanuele, she came to Amsterdam with her family at the age of 3 and has resided here since. Carm worked for a number of years as a sewing machine operator for Mohawk Sportswear until she retired in 1977. She remained very active throughout her life until past the age of 100. She was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, was past president of the Christian Women's Society and Mt. Carmel Seniors as well. She was a member of the Lionettes and the Columbiettes and a charter member of the Inman Senior Board. Carm will always be remembered for her deep faith, love of family and many friends and care and concern for others.
Her husband Lewis A. Corvene predeceased her on May 15, 1981. Her sisters Margaret Gambardella, Benedetta Pidgeon and brother Joseph Emanuele Sr. have also passed away.
Carm leaves her son Lewis C. Corvene and his wife Jean of Hudson Fla., daughter Antoinette Corvene of Farmington, NY; grandchildren William Corvene, Sarah Corvene, Margaret Mills, Elizabeth Corvene and Suzanne Mistretta; Joseph, Kathryn and Michael Tortorella; great grandchildren Benjamin, Catherine, Hannah and Timothy Corvene; Matthew and Tyler Mistretta; sisters Mary DeSorbo of Amsterdam and Rosalie Conti of Schenectady; sister in law Theresa Viaro of Amsterdam and many dear nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 9:15 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, by Fr. Lawrence J. Decker. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, where the Christian Women's Society will gather at 4:45 for prayers.
