John E. Tartaglia

On June 30th, 2014, John E. Tartaglia (84) passed peacefully away at the Wilkinson Residential Facility after a long illness. John was born on April 17th, 1930 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Eminio ("Herman") and Fortunada ("Mary") (Semione) Tartaglia, He moved with his family to Gloversville, NY as a young child and attended Gloversville schools before entering the United States Air Force. Upon leaving the military, John had the distinction of becoming the first employee hired by DECCA Records Manufacturing Plant located in his home town which later became MCA and Universal. He was employed there for many years and upon his retirement held the position of Department Manager. John decided to come out of retirement to work at Taylor Made for a period of time before retiring permanently. John was a man of few words, but had strong convictions and deep emotions. He was a devoted family oriented individual who loved having his large family near and spending time with them. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be dearly missed and remembered with love.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of nearly forty years Margaret (Peggy) Tartaglia; two dear brothers Ernest Tartaglia and Albert Tartaglia and little sister Anna who passed away when John was a very young child.

John was a communicant of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Gloversville and a member and former trustee of the Catholic War Veterans. He was a member of the Concordia Club where he and his late wife (Peggy) enjoyed the company of friends on many Sunday afternoons. John was also a member of the Gloversville Senior Citizens where he and his long time special pal Sonny Guiffre enjoyed meeting up with a group of guys, drinking coffee, and shooting the breeze.

Surviving John is his son Jack Tartaglia (Manuela) of Heletos, Texas; his daughters Ann Marie Black (Robert) of Amsterdam, NY; Jolene Soliman (Arseen); of Walnut Creek, California; Lisa Lott (Gary) of Gloversville; Wendy Noel (Robert) of Castleton, NY; and Michele LaPorta (Tim) of Gloversville.

The four siblings who survive John include a brother Victor Tartaglia (Patricia) of Sidney, New York; sisters Philomena Goodberlet of Amsterdam, NY; Anna Howard (Jerry) of Vista, California; and Ameila Alexander (Jim) of Vista, California. In addition, John has many grandchildren which survive him that include John Tartaglia, Jack Tartaglia; Kevin Black; Emma Soliman, Luke Soliman; John Lott (Stephanie); Jessie Lott; Kelly Kolbe (Keegan) Nicole LaPorta; Robert Noel, Jr. (Corrie), Kristine Noel; and Nicholas Noel. In addition, (Poppy) John had numerous great-grandchildren including Jaylan; Madison; Kaden; Cameron; Ava, Bobby, Kamryn, Katdlyn; and Kynlie.

John also left behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Family wishes to thank the Wilkinson staff for the care provided to John during his stay.

Calling hours will take place on July 9th from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville, NY.

A prayer service will take place on Thursday, July 10, at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Holy Spirit on 49 South Main St., Gloversville at 10:00 am

The Burial will take place immediately after the service at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, NY.
