The Honorable Thomas J. Murray Sr., 86, of Fultonville passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2014 with his children at his side at Community Hospice in St. Peter's Hospital in Albany following a short illness.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 30, 1927, Thomas was the son of the late Wallace and Mary Murray. He moved to the Montgomery County area in 1949 to begin his career in the criminal justice area. He joined the New York State Troopers in 1949 and was stationed in Fonda, NY. Thomas also served as a U.S. Marshall, Fulton County Under Sheriff and Montgomery County Sheriff's Department County Investigator. He served as the Town Justice for the Town of Glen for 35 years, retiring in 2013 and also was Village Justice for the Village of Fultonville for over ten years.

Following his career in law enforcement, he went to work as Sales Manager for H&P Motors in Gloversville and later at Hawkins Auto Sales in Nelliston. Thomas was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving from 1945 to 1947.

He was a parishioner of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Fonda since 1949. Thomas was also a member of the Former State Troopers Association and the State Magistrates Association, a lifetime member of the AETNA Fire Engine Co. in Fultonville, served thirty years as Santa Claus for the Village of Fultonville and the Town of Glen Fire Departments, former member of the Fonda-Fultonville Board of Education and an active member of the Irish American Club in Amsterdam.

On October 7th, 1950, Thomas married his loving wife of over 55 years, Ann A. Grau Murray. She passed away in November of 2008. Survivors include his children; Thomas Jr. (Judith) of Fultonville, John "Jack" (Christine) of Tribes Hill, Kathleen Pepe (William) of High Point, NC, James of Fultonville, Gerard of Tribes Hill and Mary Jo (Mary) of Cohoes; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchil- dren. Also surviving are his brother John (Gerri) of Stuart, Florida and his sister Joan Quinn (Eugene) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl. and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Ann, he was also pre-deceased by his brothers; William and Charles and his sisters Anne and Mary.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 6th at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home on 15 Main Street, Fultonville from 2pm to 5pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 7th, 2014 at 10 am at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church on Broadway in Fonda with the Rev. Patrick Gallagher as celebrant. A graveside ceremony will be held after the funeral mass with military honors at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Thomas J.
