Today's parade of support is delayed

Tuesday, July 01, 2014 - Updated: 10:25 AM

The city Recreation Department announced this morning that the Destination 27 casino parade originally scheduled for this afternoon has been postponed.

"Due to the extreme heat in the forecast, the rally for the Destination 27 project at Shuttleworth Park has been postponed," according to an email. The forecast calls for high temperatures and humidity.

"With a high heat index and the potential for thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon, this decision was made in the best interest of the large crowd that would have been in attendance," according to the rec department.

The rally had been scheduled by groups in the community in support of the Destination 27 proposal -- the casino planned for the town of Florida and city of Amsterdam.

The Amsterdam Mohawks game against Glens Falls is still scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch, as temperatures are expected to decrease, the statement read.
