Muriel E. Papura

Muriel E. Papura of Amsterdam, NY, passed into eternal rest peacefully at Albany Medical Center on June 22, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born in Amsterdam on January 8, 1937, she is the daughter of the late Arthur and Mabel (Morley) Cook.Raised in Amsterdam, she is a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She worked at Mohawk Carpet Mills as a clerk, Wilbur H. Lynch HS, and McDonald's, as a cashier and as a waitress at Tuman's Bar & Grill. She was a member of the Inman's Senior Center and Choir, as well as a former member of the Mohawk Valley Choir and long time member of TOPS 911. She served as a Den Mother and leader of Boy and Girl Scout Troops. Muriel was an avid knitter and could be seen knitting every day. Her hard work went to many loved ones and to donation's for infants in the NICU. She also enjoyed watching the Amsterdam Mohawks baseball games.

She was also a faithful communicant of the St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Amsterdam, and sat regularly on the "Prayer" table, Monday's in front of church.

Survivors include three sons, David W. Papura and wife Debbie of Mechanicville, Thomas R. Papura (Lisa Healy Guttenberg) of Broadalbin, Peter A. Papura of Marbury, Maryland, and a daughter, Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Craig and husband Jim of Amesbury, Mass. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Katelyn M. Papura of Broadalbin, Joseph W. Papura of Mechanichville; and four step-grandchildren, Brian, Meghan, Sarah, and Connor Craig of Lisbon Falls, Maine; her brothers, Ralph (Margaret)Cook of Amsterdam, John Cook of Rotterdam David(Liz) Cook of Greensboro, NC and many nieces, nephews; cousins also survive along with loved canine grand dogs, Laci, Olaf and Yogi.

Muriel is predeceased by her beloved husband William A. Papura whom she wed on December 2, 1961.

There will be no viewing or funeral services. A memorial service will be held on July 20, 2014 at 1PM at the St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Amsterdam, N.Y The family requests donation's in lieu of flowers to St. Ann's Episcopal Church 37 Division St. Amsterdam NY 12010 or the Horace J. Inman Senior Center, 53 Guy Park Ave. Amsterdam, NY 12010.
