Theodora "Teddy" Carpluk Pifko

Theodora "Teddy" Carpluk Pifko, 90, of Hatzenbuhler Road Broadalbin, died Friday evening June 20, 2014 at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam with her loving family at her side.

She was born in Brooklyn on February 28, 1924 a daughter of Theodore and Pauline Bilecka Carpluk and was a graduate of Manhattan High School of Women's Garment Trades. Mrs. Pifko lived in the Bronx and Brooklyn until moving to Broadalbin in 1971.

Teddy was employed as a custom dressmaker for Bergdorf Goodman in New York City for several years.

Mrs. Pifko was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Broadalbin. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society at church. Mrs. Pifko was a member and past regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Broderick #1591. She was a member of the former Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary in Broadalbin. Teddy was a charter member of the Broadalbin-Kennyetto Historical Society, an active member of the Broadalbin Senior Citizens, and served on the advisory committee for the Office of the Aging in Fulton County. She was also a life member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War.

Her greatest joy was spending time with family and visiting with friends. She enjoyed traveling and actively participating in community and church events. Always proud of her Ukrainian heritage, folk dancing was a focal point in her life. Teddy fondly remembered performing traditional Ukrainian dances at the 1939 World's Fair in New York City and acted as the Chairperson for Ukrainian Day activities at the New York State Pavilion for the 1964-65 World's Fair

She was married to George Pifko, Sr. on April 28, 1946. He died November 8, 2003. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Theodora "Theo" J. Higgins, who died May 15, 2012.

Survivors include a son, George (Carol) Pifko, Jr. of Broadalbin; two daughters, Christine Hayes and Joyce (Robert) Uebrick, all of Broadalbin; a son-in-law James Higgins of Broadalbin; a sister, Sylvia Karp of Broadalbin; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Zajaceskowski, Monica (Art) Armstrong, Carolyn (Todd) Stratton, James N. (Nicole) Higgins II, Michael (Sabrina) Pifko, Jeromy N. Higgins, Joshua N. Higgins, and Jacob Hentnik; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:15 am at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street) Johnstown followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Joseph's Church 7 North Street Broadalbin, with Rev. Thomas Morrette, as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Basil's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00- 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin Youth Commission - Town Park Fund or to the Works of Mercy at St. Joseph's Church, both in care of the funeral home.
