Amsterdam High graduates celebrate

TOWN OF AMSTERDAM — On Saturday, friends and family of the Amsterdam High School class of 2013 gathered in the high school gymnasium for this year's commencement exercises.

This year's valedictorian was Lukas Brower, who will attend Princeton University and major in computer science.

The salutatorian was Benjamin Patrick, who will attend Union College and major in biochemistry and foreign language.

The featured speaker was local attorney Deborah Slezak, a 1985 graduate of Amsterdam High. She is currently a principal at Cioffi-Slezak-Wildgrube P.C. in Niskayuna, a 100 percent woman-owned and operated mid-sized law firm.

Other speakers included Amsterdam High School Principal David Ziskin, state Sen. Cecilia Tkaczyk, D-Duanesburg, and Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, D- Rotterdam.
