BRB rallies; advances into finals

Betz, Rossi, Bellinger scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to a thrilling 13-11 come-from-behind victory over second-seeded Kyle's Bounce Rentals in an Amsterdam Youth Baseball League Majors Division semifinal playoff game Thursday at Isabel's Field.

BRB, seeded third, will play in the best-of-3 championship series beginning on Monday. Their opponent will be decided on Saturday when Crane's Sealcoating meets Mohawk Valley Orthopedics in a play-in game at 1:30 p.m. with the winner coming right back to play the top overall seed -- St. Michael's. at 3:30 p.m. The winner of that game will play BRB.

"I couldn't be more proud of these kids," said Betz, Rossi, Bellinger coach C.J. Mercado. "We fought all year and we fought again today."

BRB won the hard way -- coming all the way back from an early 5-0 first inning deficit. BRB erupted for six runs in the second inning and the game went into back-and-forth mode until the final inning.

Michael Rocas earned the win, pitching four strong innings of relief and helped himself with two singles and three runs scored.

Tyler Krackow led the offense with three singles and two runs scored. Phil Johnson, Caydren Gravely and Angel Zapata added a single apiece.

Damian Colon and Brayden Loria had three singles apiece for Kyle's Bounce Rentals. Andrew Bracchi had a double, single and two RBIs, John Gravely added two singles and Christian Baaki, Chris Parker and Nicolas Hernandez had a single apiece. Kyle's Bounce Rentals outhit BRB 14-8.

"I feel confident heading into the championship series that we can take it," Mercado said. "If we want to win, we have to play as a team. I think we can do that."

Playoffs continue tonight at Isabel's Field with two Minors Division semifinal games. Cappies will play MCT Federal Credit Union at 5:30 p.m. followed by a 7:30 p.m. start between top-seed Junior Mohawks and St. Mary's Healthcare.
