Motorcyclist crashes into vehicle

Thursday, June 19, 2014 - Updated: 6:28 PM

A motorcyclist crashed into a vehicle on the corner of DeStefano Avenue and Route 5S Thursday evening, sending one man to St. Mary's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Amsterdam Police Department officer Chris Cuddy said a Liberty ARC driver, who was driving a Dodge Caravan,  stopped at a stop sign on DeStefano Avenue, when she proceeded to pull out cutting off the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist, who was driving a Yamaha, was headed West on 5S and struck the front left bumper of  the van.

Around 3:30 p.m., GAVAC arrived on scene. Paramedics were patching the motorcyclist's right arm and setting his right leg into a brace before  escorted him to the hospital.

The Liberty driver did not sustain any injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

Cuddy said the motorcyclist had the right of way.

He said the woman reportedly did not see the motorcyclist coming when she pulled out.

"She is shaken from the crash," Cuddy said.

The Amsterdam Fire Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department also responded to the scene of the crash.

The accident is still under investigation and no tickets have been issued at this time, Cuddy said.
