Top 10 seniors at AHS announced

TOWN OF AMSTERDAM -- The top 10 members of the Amsterdam High School class of 2013 have been announced.

* Lukas Brower is the Valedictorian of the class of 2013.

Lukas has qualified for an Advanced Regents with Honors Diploma with Mastery in Math and Science Designation. Lucas is the recipient of the following awards and scholarships: Bausch and Lomb Science Award, Robert P. Doyle Memorial Scholarship, CTW Award for Math and Science, and the Amsterdam Teachers' Valedictorian Award.

Lukas is a member of the National Honor Society, Math League, Masterminds, and the Varsity Tennis and Golf Teams.

Lukas is the son of Vincent and Tammy Brower of Amsterdam. He plans to attend Princeton University and will major in Computer Science.

* Benjamin Patrick is the Salutatorian for the class of 2013.

Ben has qualified for an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors Designation. Ben is the recipient of the following awards and scholarships: Presidential Scholarship Award at Union College, Prudential Spirit Community Award, Excellence in the Study of Literature Award, New York State 2012 Scholarship for Academic Excellence, and Boys' State Attendee.

Ben is a member of the National Honor Society, Math League, Masterminds, Tennis and Bowling Teams.

Ben is the son of Thomas and Jami Patrick. He plans to attend Union College and will dual major in Biochemistry and Foreign Language.

* Connor Kilgallen is the third ranked student for the class of 2013.

Connor has qualified for an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors Designation. Connor is the recipient of the following awards and scholarships: RPI Math and Science Outstanding Junior Award, Santabarbara Engineering Scholarship, New York State 2012 Scholarship for Academic Excellence, and Louis Armstrong Jazz Award.

Connor is a member of the National Honor Society, Math League, Masterminds, Key Club, Robotics Club, Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Varsity Soccer, Track and Field, and is a class Officer.

Connor is the son of Mike and Linea Kilgallen. He plans to attend RPI and will major in Chemical Engineering.

* John Hardies is the fourth ranked student for the class of 2013.

John has qualified for an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors Designation. John is a recipient of the following awards and scholarships: University of Rochester Xerox Award for Innovation and Technology, Mechanical Drawing Compass Award, Jeff Johnson Memorial Award, David Santos Memorial Award, Jerome H. Schaffer Award, New York State 2012 Scholarship for Academic Excellence Award, Excellence in the Study of Literature Award, Social Studies Outstanding Student, Big 10 Conference and Section II class A Basketball and Scholar Athlete Award, and the Student Athlete Award for Basketball.

John is a member of the National Honor Society, Robotics Club, Math League, Varsity Soccer and Captain, Varsity Basketball, Varsity Track and Field, and Amsterdam Travel Soccer.

John is the son of Sean and Marilyn Hardies. He plans to attend the University of Maryland at College Park and will major in Mechanical Engineering.

* Michael Tambasco is the fifth ranked student in the AHS class of 2013.

Michael has qualified for an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors Designation. Michael is the recipient of the following awards and scholarships: the Lawrence Tech Scholarship, Lee N. and Grace Q. Vedder Scholarship, Clarkson Scholarship, and the Scholar Athlete Award.

Michael is a member of the National Honor Society, Medical Explorers Club, Math League, Masterminds, National Honor Society Peer Tutoring, Marching Band, Concert Band, and the Robotics Club, Varsity Golf, Varsity Tennis, and Travel Baseball.

Michael is the son of Joe and Kathy Tambasco of Amsterdam. He plans to attend Clarkson University and will major in Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering.

* Karleigh Madej is the sixth ranked student for the class of 2013.

Karleigh has qualified for an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors Designation. Karleigh is the recipient of the following awards and scholarships: Deann Rosmarino Memorial Award, Lee and Grace Vedder Scholarship, ACDFS Sam Picciocca Memorial Scholarship, CTW Award, and the New York State 2012 Scholarship for Academic Excellence Award.

Karleigh is a member of the National Honor Society, JV and Varsity Soccer, Captain of the Soccer Team and the Mock Trial Team.

Karleigh is the daughter of Thomas and Pamela Madej. She plans to attend Syracuse University and will major in Mechanical Engineering.

* Kyle Farina is the seventh ranked student in the AHS class of 2013.

Kyle has qualified with an Advanced Regents with Honors Diploma with Math and Science Mastery Designation. Kyle is the recipient of the following awards and scholarships: the RIT Creativity and Innovation Award, ACPHS Deans Scholarship, Gerald P. Barnell Memorial Scholarship, Amsterdam Community Dollars for Scholars Scholarship, CTW Award and the Prudential Spirit Award.

Kyle is the National Honor Society President and the Marching Rams Treasurer as well as Section Leader. He is a member of Jazz Band, Tennis Team and Drama Club. He is also a HOBY Alumnus.

Kyle is the son of Carlo Farina Jr. of Gloversville and Christine Przbylowicz of Amsterdam. He plans to attend Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and will major in Pharmacy.

* Anthony Stewart is the eighth ranked student in the AHS class of 2013.

Anthony has qualified for an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors Designation. Anthony is the recipient of the following awards and scholarships: the Clarkson University Merit Scholarship, Life Scout Award (soon to be Eagle Scout).

Anthony is a member of the National Honor Society, National Association of High School Scholars, Club Interact, Math League, Masterminds, Marching Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band, Varsity Track, Varsity Soccer, and Indoor Track.

Anthony is the son of Judi and Michael Stewart of Hagaman. He plans to attend Clarkson University and will major in Electrical Engineering.

* Deborah Johnson is the ninth ranked student for the class of 2013.

Deborah has qualified for an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors Designation. Deborah is the recipient of the following awards and scholarships: the Edwin and Nora Hardies Memorial Scholarship, Douglas Hutchison Memorial Award, Fredrick Smith Memorial Award, New York State 2012 Scholarship for Academic Excellence Award, Directors Award for Chorus, and the Outstanding Montgomery County Junior 4-H Award.

Deborah is a member of the National Honor Society, Varsity Cross Country, Track and Field, and Varsity Basketball Team, the Multicultural Club, Drama Club and Select Choir.

Deborah is the daughter of Philip and Sheryl Johnson. She plans to attend Schenectady Community College and will major in Science.

* Mary Wozniak is the tenth ranked student in the AHS class of 2013.

Mary has qualified for an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors Designation. Mary is the recipient of the following awards and scholarships: Scholar Athlete Award and Captain of the Varsity Swim Team.

Mary is an active member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Masterminds, Medical Explorers Club, and the Marching Band.

Mary is the daughter of Richard and Stacy Wozniak of Amsterdam. She plans to attend Northeastern University and will major in Behavioral Neuroscience.
