FONDA -- The superintendent search for Fonda-Fultonville Central School District is down to two candidates -- elementary school Principal Thomas Ciaccio and high school Principal David Halloran.

They will make presentations at a public meeting June 10 at 6:30 p.m., before the board of education makes its final decision at the end of the month.

The candidates' presentations will focus on what each plans to do if they get the position. Parents, residents, students and staff will have the opportunity to meet them, ask questions, and provide feedback to the school board.

"They will present what they would do if they get the job, and then there will be a question-and-answer session," outgoing Super-intendent Raymond Colucciello said.

The candidates were interviewed by the community/staff committee May 29, which will make recommendations to the board.

The board will then interview the candidates June 16 and make a final decision.

"We are moving right along as planned," board president Timothy Wendell said.

The candidate will be hired as an associate superintendent/principal, and will remain in their current position while being mentored by Colucciello, whose contract will be extended beyond June 30.

"They want to see how things go," Colucciello said. "We agreed that I would stay on."

Wendell said Colucciello will remain in the district for another six months to a year to assist the candidate while he learns the duties of the position.

"We are not going to have two superintendents. The candidate will be working both jobs, principal/associate superintendent, at no additional cost to the district, with no salary increase," Wendell said. "This is a great opportunity for the district, and it's a great opportunity for the candidates to develop their skills, because they don't have any experience currently."

The board will begin to search for a replacement principal upon the candidate taking over the chief position full-time, Wendell said.

The district has been without a permanent superintendent since former district head James Hoffman resigned in June 2012.

Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES Superintendent Patrick Michel took over part-time until Colucciello was hired in late December 2012.

The board of education began a search for a full-time replacement while Michel was at the helm, but suspended it after designating three finalists. One of those finalists was Halloran.

In June 2013, the board of education voted to extend Colucciello's contract for an additional year.
