Lake patrolled for the holiday

During the Memorial Day weekend, troopers and state environmental conservation officers patrolled the waters of the Great Sacandaga Lake.

Numerous vessel inspections were conducted to ensure that everyone was boating in a safe manner, and three state navigation law tickets were issued.

Boaters were issued tickets for fishing without a license, taking fish during a closed season, and not having a throwable device in a vessel.

Tkaczyk to announce re-election bid

FORT PLAIN -- Democratic state Sen. Cecilia Tkaczyk of Duanesburg will be kicking off her re-election campaign for the 46th Senate District at 10 a.m. in the village today.

She will announce at the Erie Station Bar and Grill, 7 Canal St.

Tkaczyk will be joined by local leaders and elected officials, including U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam, Ulster County Executive Mike Hein, Montgomery County Legislature Chairman Thomas Quackenbush, numerous mayors, town supervisors, county legislators, town board members, school board members and county, town and city political leaders.

Republican George Amedore announced his election campaign for the seat earlier this year. Tkaczyk defeated Amedore for the seat in the 2012 general election.

Undersheriff to kick of Assembly campaign

Montgomery County Undersheriff Peter Vroman, a Republican, will hold his official campaign kick-off for the 111th Assembly District June 21 at 11 a.m. at the Riverlink Park in Amsterdam.

Expected guests include U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, and Montgomery County Executive Matthew Ossenfort.

The seat is currently held by Democrat Angelo Santabarbara of Rotterdam. He has not officially announced a re-election bid.
