Sylvia E. Lanfear, 90, former resident of Route 5S, Fultonville, passed away peacefully on Monday at the Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown where she resided for the past two years.

Born March 12, 1924 in Amsterdam, New York she was the daughter of the late William and A. Evelyn Plunkett McCrum.

She was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.

Sylvia was first employed at the General Electric Company in Schenectady during WWII. After the war she worked as a Telephone Operator for Bell Telephone Company in Amsterdam. In 1958 she moved with her family to Central Valley, in the Town of Woodbury where she was employed as a bus driver for the Monroe Woodbury Central School District until moving back to Fultonville in 1974.

Woodworking was Sylvia's passion. Over the years she made many elaborate Doll Houses. She also enjoyed crocheting doll clothing and decorating her home for Christmas with many village collectables. Sylvia looked forward to working the local Church rummage sales.

In 1950 she married Reginald C. Lanfear who passed away in 1988. She was also predeceased by two sons, Reginald and Robin. Survivors include two sons, Jeff A. (Willie) Lanfear of Fultonville and James L. (Laura) Lanfear of South Minden; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville with the Rev. William Hodgetts officiating.

Burial will take place in Maple Avenue Cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in Sylvia's memory to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 42 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
