Marion Jakaitis, 83, entered eternal peace Sunday morning, May 25th, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with her brother at her side after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam on July 17, 1930, the daughter of the late John (Bootsie) and Barbara Vainauskas Jakaitis, she graduated from Amsterdam High School and the Mildred Elley Secretarial School.
Marion was employed for many years at Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam and retired from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.
She was a lifelong member of the former St. Casimir's Church in Amsterdam. Marion recently resided in Cohoes.
She leaves her brother Gary Jakaitis and sister-in-law Debra, her niece Leah and nephew Daniel, and several cousins and friends. Marion asked that her dear friends, Gail Fuller and Joan Slingerland, as well as Doctors Kaufman and Shaffer and the nurses and staff of Albany Medical Center, be thanked for supporting her throughout her cancer battle. Marion's family is grateful to the Sixth Floor nurses and staff at Samaritan Hospital, as well as The Community Hospice, for their attention to Marion during her final days.
An interment service will be held for Marion's family and friends at St. Casimir's Cemetery Chapel, Amsterdam, at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 30th. Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating.
