Chester E. Slezak

Mr. Chester E. Slezak, 91 of Amsterdam passed away peacefully May 21, 2014 at St. Mary's Healthcare after a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam on May 23, 1922 he is the son of the late Lawrence and Josephine Grybos Slezak.

Chet is a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He then enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. Chester worked for many years as a New York State Trooper, serving at Troop G. He was a BCI Investigator and was devoted to his job in law enforcement. He belonged to the Association of Former NYS Troopers. He enjoyed the company of his family and great grand dog, Quincy. Chet also enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and gardening.

His loving family includes his beloved wife Apolonia Dmyszewicz Slezak, whom he married on October 18, 1950, daughter Marian "Minnie" Spencer of Amsterdam, brother Norbert Slezak, sister Winifred Petroski, grandsons, Erik Peters and Martin Spencer and cousin William Henges.

Chester is predeceased by sons, James Slezak and Thomas Slezak and brothers, Anthony Slezak and Raymond Slezak.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 9am at the St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman.

A burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant.

Memorial contributions may be made in Chet's memory to the Amsterdam Free Library in honor of his dedication to reading and going to the library. Cards will be available at the church or please mail contributions to 28 Church Street, Amsterdam NY 12010.
