Donald R. Thane, 90, of 115 Laurel Drive, Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital with his family at his side.

Born in Weehawken, NJ on January 31, 1923, Donald was the son of Robert and Elsie Thane. A graduate of Cliffside Park High School, Donald served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. On December 30, 1951 he married Dorothy E. Thane. Donald became the proprietor of A. Thane and Sons Plumbing and Heating.

Throughout his life his priorities were those of devoted father and husband, master plumber, aviation enthusiast, and farm owner. Donald and Dorothy retired in 1987 to the family farm in Harpersfield, NY where they were members of the local Grange.

Predeceased by his wife Dorothy, Donald leaves his sister Marian Thane of Dumont, NJ; his children: Michael Thane and his wife Carol Sulis of Hingham, MA; Jeffrey Thane and his wife Sharon Donohue of Oradell, NJ; Peter Thane and his wife Ann Thane of Amsterdam, NY; Betsy McDowell and her husband Jule McDowell of Cary, NC; and seven grandchildren.

Burial will take place at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ on May 25, 2013.

There are no calling hours, and in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Donald's name to the Montgomery County SPCA to honor his love of animals. Contributions may be made in care of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home to whom his family has entrusted his care.
